The Master Cleanse is a strict diet that requires adherence to a very specific liquid drink. The diet is intended for detoxification and is usually maintained for over 10 days. Due to the intensity of this diet, it is extremely important that dieters "ease out" of the diet progressively so as to not shock or overly stimulate the body too rapidly. While the Master Cleanse diet is reported to have many benefits, it is important to understand that there is no medical evidence to support these claims. Speak to your doctor before you attempt this diet.

Significance

There are three phases of the diet. These include, "easing-in," the lemonade diet and "easing-out." The lemonade diet is seemingly the most important phase as this is when you are adhering to a strict liquid fast, however the first and last phase are actually the most significant. In order to begin a drastic detox fast, such as the Master Cleanse, you will need to prepare your body. Then, when the fast is complete, your body will need to gradually be reintroduced to solid foods.

First Day

On the first day post-Master Cleanse, you are recommended to consume fresh, organic orange juice, according to The Master Cleanse website. The juice is to be manually or electrically squeezed in order to make 2 liters mixed with water. You can also add maple syrup to this juice if you would like extra calories. It is also reccommended to drink plenty of water to keep your system flushed and hydrated.

Second Day

On day two, The Master Cleanse website suggests the adding other juices, soups and broths to your diet. The goal of the second day post-cleanse is to provide macro nutrients to your bloodstream through the intake of nutrient-rich liquids. With this in mind, you can include any fruit and vegetable juices or soups that are to your liking. However, the site does recommend that the ingredients are natural, organic, and free of any animal products.

Third Day

Day three is when you are able to reintroduce solid foods, according to The Master Cleanse website. The third day post-cleanse is intended to set the precedent for your long-term lifestyle established through the cleanse. This includes a diet rich in vegetables and fruits that are prepared as close to their natural state as possible. The Master Cleanse website also recommends that your diet continues to remain free from animal protein and dairy products.

Long-term

The most fundamental phase of the Master Cleanse is your long-term lifestyle management following the cleanse. The Master Cleanse website suggests that you "eat wisely" following your completion of the cleanse and easing-out period. The site recommends that rather than going back to old habits that did not suit you, you should adopt and maintain healthy eating and lifestyle choices that you can sustain for the long-haul. It is believed that the benefits of the Master Cleanse will be largely affected by your long-term choices.

Warning

Keep in mind that the Master Cleanse Diet is not right for everyone. Even when followed properly, it can still have adverse side effects for certain individuals. Speak to your doctor about your dietary and lifestyle concerns to devise a plan that is right for you.
