How to Troubleshoot a Proform 785 F

The ProForm 785 F is an elliptical machine that comes equipped with an inertia-enhanced flywheel, 20 levels of resistance, EKG grip pulse sensors and a pair of built-in speakers designed for use with personal audio devices. These devices provide a workout by allowing the operator to simulate the act of running or walking; a pair of swing arms mounted on the front of the elliptical help the user maintain his balance and work the upper arms. Over time, certain components of the 785 F may cease to work as well as desired, requiring maintenance.

Lubrication

Step 1

Remove the screw and washer securing the roller to the right side of the right pedal. Apply a small amount of grease to the axle attached to the right pedal. Use a clean work towel to spread the lubricant over the surface of the axle.

Step 2

Apply grease to the right roller. Use the work towel to spread the lubricant across the surface of the roller. Replace the roller and use the previously-removed screw and washer to secure it back into place. Repeat the lubrication process with the left roller.

Step 3

Use a damp work towel and a mild detergent to clean the surface of the rails located beneath each roller. Dry the rails. Move the device's pedals back and forth to run the rollers across the surface of the rails.

Step 4

Remove the bolts securing the handlebars to the pivot axle attached to the upright. Apply grease to the surface of the pivot axle, then reattach the handlebars. Remove the bolts securing the pedals to the pedal crank arms. Apply grease to the surface of each crank arm, then reattach the pedals.

Console

Step 1

Disconnect the power adapter from the console unit. Remove the bolts securing the console unit to the upright.

Step 2

Lift the console unit upward. Inspect the rear panel of the console and examine the wire harness. Confirm that none of the connections between the console's wires and those of the upright are loose. Reattach the console unit to the upright.

Step 3

Remove the bolts securing the handlebars to the upright. Detach the handlebars and remove the pivot axle. Remove the screws securing the upright to the base unit. Confirm that none of the connections between the upright's wires and those of the base unit are loose.

Step 4

Reattach the console unit to the upright. Reinstall the pivot axle and reattach the handlebars. Reconnect the power adapter.
