Carbohydrates are a macronutrient that comes in at 4 calories per gram. When they are consumed, they get converted to glucose and used for instant energy or they are stored as glycogen for later use. When you go on a high-protein diet and severely restrict your carbs, your body goes into a state of "ketosis." When this happens, your body shifts from carbs to fat for energy. Foods with no sugar or carbs can be utilized when you are trying to get your body into this state.

Meat

Meat is high in protein and iron, and some forms are high in fat. It is also free of carbs and sugar. Examples include steak, sirloin, beef tips, beef patties, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, duck, bison, venison and any other game meat. Processed meats like bacon and sausage have a tendency to have minimal carbs due to added sugar and other added ingredients.
