Cholesterol-Free Foods List

Foods with no cholesterol are mainly plant-based foods. The United States government requires food labels on most packaged foods. The approved terms for a product claiming to be cholesterol-free are less than 2mg of cholesterol per serving and 2g or less saturated fat per serving. These products are not technically free of cholesterol, just extremely low in cholesterol and saturated fat content.

Fruits

The American Heart Association's DASH (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension) diet plan recommends at least four to five servings of fruits per day. Good fruit choices include orange juice, avocados, honeydew melons, raspberries, watermelon, apples, blueberries, bananas and raisins. Fruit can also replace fatty desserts and snacks, providing a healthy and filling alternative.

Vegetables

The American Heart Association's DASH (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension) diet plan recommends at least four to five servings of vegetables per day. Vegetable choices include broccoli, alfalfa seeds, asparagus, mushrooms, potatoes (sweet and regular), spinach, celery, cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, squash, onions and peppers. Fruits or vegetables can be pureed to replace the oil in muffins, cookies, cakes and snack bar recipes.

Whole Grains and Legumes

According to The American Heart Association's DASH (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension) diet plan, you should consume four to five servings of nuts, seeds and legumes as well as six to eight servings of grains each day in your cholesterol-lowering diet. Choices include snap beans, green beans, white rice, oat bran, cracked wheat bread and rye bread.

Other Foods

Other cholesterol-free foods include bamboo shoots, garlic, fresh dill weed, egg whites and cocoa powder mix. Look for foods that are advertised as "cholesterol free." Foods low in cholesterol, saturated fat and sodium are an important staple in healthy diets. Opt for fresh foods over canned varieties.
