Private duty home care employees often include a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, home health aide, occupational therapist, physical therapist, phlebotomist, homemaker aide, medical director and spiritual care adviser.

Types of care can include physical therapy, monitoring of the patient's health, behavioral therapy, bathing, grooming, wound care, respite or companionship, and housekeeping services.

Reason for Use

Private duty home care is usually used by people recovering from a surgery or injury, someone who is elderly and can no longer care for himself, someone receiving hospice services or someone who needs assistance with their personal care.

Cost

According to the National Private Duty Association, the average cost of private duty home care ranges between $17.50 and $23.50 an hour. In some cases, insurance will cover the cost or partial cost of services. Generally, the person is responsible for paying out of pocket.
