Excess weight is a growing concern for many women; many solutions are available for weight loss, each with its pros and cons. If applied properly, these solutions can bring about a multitude of cosmetic and health benefits. Quick weight loss solutions can range from simple diet and exercise to major, body-altering surgery.

Dangers

The accumulation of excess fat is a health concern for the woman who has it. The more fat you have stored on your body, the more at risk you are for certain medical conditions. Excess body fat raises your risk for heart attacks, strokes, diabetes and infertility. According to the experts at the Mayo Clinic, your breast cancer risks are raised by excess body fat. Excess fat raises your risk for cancer of the rectum, cancer of the colon and type 2 diabetes as well.

Diet Solutions

Dieting is one solution that can bring about fast weight loss. Fast weight loss can be achieved cutting out fatty foods and foods high in sugar. The amount of calories that need to be trimmed vary from woman to woman. However, the goal for any woman seeking to lose weight is to produce a calorie deficit, which means you are burning more calories than you eat. A calorie deficit of 500 calories a day will help you lose one lb. a week. While quick weight loss may be a goal, weight loss should not exceed two to three pounds a week unless it is done under medical supervision.

Another way for women to lose weight fast is to cut out the sodium in their diet. By cutting out sodium, a woman decreases the amount of water retained in her body. Keep in mind, though, the speed at which a woman loses weight varies from woman to woman.

Exercise Solutions

Exercise is essential for weight loss. Exercise increases the amount of calories you burn and helps create a calorie deficit. Aerobic exercises are better for quick weight loss. They burn more calories during a workout than resistance training. Running, swimming, skating, dancing and biking are all types of aerobic exercises that if done consistently and combined with a low calorie diet will help you lose weight fast. Professor Asmangulyan, an expert in preventive medicine, recommends two to three hours of moderate intensity aerobic exercise a week to lose weight, more may be required to induce quick weight loss.

Medical (Non-Surgical) Solutions

In some cases, stubborn pockets of fat do not respond to diet and exercise. In these cases, medical intervention can remove a woman's fat quickly. There are three non-surgical methods to induce fast weight loss; ultrasound fat breakdown, Coolsculpting and Zerona. The ultrasound technique uses sound waves to burst fat cells without damaging the upper layers of skin. Coolscultping freezes fat cells causing them to die. This process is known as cryolipolysis. Ultrasound treatment and coolsculpting may require a few treatments to be effective. Zerona uses cold energy, also known as medical laser, to force fat out of fat cells. In all of these methods, a woman's body disposes of the excess fat naturally. Coolsculpting and Zerona are FDA-approved methods which have had mixed results during clinical trials causing weight loss in some individuals and having no effect on others. Ultrasound is not yet available in the United States, but has shown promise during trials in Europe.

Surgical Solutions

If all of the previous methods are futile, the surgical option is also available for women who want fast weight loss. Only relatively healthy women can undergo surgery to reduce the risk of surgical complications. Liposuction, tummy tucks and thigh tucks are all examples of surgical methods that can help a woman lose weight fast. Liposuction is procedure where subcutaneous fat is sucked out from under the skin using a hollow tube and aspirator. This procedure can be used all over the body, but can only remove small amounts of fat at a time. Tummy tuck and thigh tucks are examples of more invasive procedures where the fat is removed after a surgeon performs large incisions. These procedures can remove large amounts of fat, but have higher risk for surgical complications and scar development.
