Top 10 States With the Highest Sexual Disease Rate

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as of 2007, the common sexually transmitted diseases of chlamydia, syphilis and gonorrhea were rated per 100,000 population by state. The lowest rate of chlamydia was found in New Hampshire at 156.3, cases with the highest rate of 745.1 cases in Mississippi. Fifteen states had rates higher than 400 per 100,000. The lowest rate of syphilis cases were reported in three states at .2 case per 100,000 with southern states showing the highest rates of gonorrhea at 156 cases per 100,000. Louisiana, Mississippi

At the top of the list for primary and secondary syphilis is Louisiana at 12.4 per 100,000 residents. Tops for chlamydia is Mississippi at 745.1 and the highest rate for gonorrhea also is Mississippi at 285.7. The rest of the list follows with the per state rate for syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea respectively.

Alabama, Alaska, Louisiana

The second highest rates are Alabama at 8.3 for syphilis, Alaska at 732.9 for chlamydia and Louisiana at 259.7 for gonorrhea.

Georgia, South Carolina

In the third position are Georgia at 7.3 for syphilis, South Carolina at 611.7 for chlamydia and South Carolina also with gonorrhea at 239 for gonorrhea.

Maryland, Alabama

Maryland comes in fourth place at 6.1 for syphilis, and Alabama is in fourth place both for chlamydia at 546.9 and gonorrhea at 236.7 for gonorrhea.

Tennessee, New Mexico, Georgia

In fifth are Tennessee, only slightly below Maryland at 6.1 for syphilis; New Mexico at 484 for chlamydia; and Georgia at 190.5 for gonorrhea.

California, Georgia, North Carolina

Sixth places include California at 5.6 for syphilis, Georgia at 458.3 for chlamydia and North Carolina at 188.2 for gonorrhea.

Texas, Louisiana, Delaware

Seventh places are Texas at 4.7 for syphilis, Louisiana at 451.6 for chlamydia and Delaware at 176 for gonorrhea.

Florida, Tennessee, Missouri

Eighth places are Florida with 5 for syphilis, Tennessee at 444.9 for chlamydia and Missouri at 169 for gonorrhea.

Texas, Hawaii, Illinois

Ninth places are Texas at 4.9 for syphilis, Hawaii at 440.2 for chlamydia and Illinois at 162.2 for gonorrhea.

Arizona, Illinois, Tennessee

Tenth places are taken by Arizona at 4.8 for syphilis, Illinois at 432.3 for chlamydia and Tennessee at 158.4 for gonorrhea.
