ProForm elliptical machines are a type of exercise device designed for use in the home or gym. These products are similar to treadmills and stationary bicycles in function; a pair of pedals attached to the device's base unit move in alternating order, allowing the user to move his legs as though walking or running. Two pivoting handlebars work the upper body through a combination of pushing and pulling motions. Many models of ProForm elliptical also come equipped with digital consoles that display information about the current workout.
Step 1
Fit the front stabilizer into its mounting bracket, located on the underside of the base unit; if the rear stabilizer is not installed, attach it to the frame in a similar manner. Connect the ramp to the rear of the base unit with screws; some models also require installation of a pivot axle through the end of the base unit before connecting the ramp.
Step 2
Inspect the underside of the base unit. If the device features an incline motor, fit the incline spacer over the end of the bar attached to motor. Slide the incline axle through the sides of the ramp and the incline spacer; use screws to secure the ends of the axle to the ramp.
Step 3
Lift the elliptical's console support and position it over the opening on the top of the base unit. Connect the wires protruding from the base unit to those dangling from the bottom of the support. Bolt the bottom end of the support onto the base unit.
Step 4
Apply machine grease to the surface of both crank arms. Fit the front ends of the left and right pedal arms onto the corresponding crank arms; if your elliptical comes packaged with crank arm spacers, fit the spacers onto the crank arms before you attach the pedal arms. Use screws to secure the pedal arms to the crank arms.
Step 5
Attach the pedals to the pedal arms with screws or bolts, depending on your model of elliptical. Inspect the front end of the pedal arms; if the arms feature supports for the handlebars, slide the handlebars onto the supports and bolt them in place.
Step 6
Apply machine grease to the handlebar axle and slide it through the center of the console support; if your elliptical comes packaged with handlebar spacers, slide the spacers onto the axle. Fit the handlebars onto the axle; if your elliptical comes with separate handlebar legs, slide the upper end of each leg onto the axle, then use pedal legs to join the lower end of each leg to the front end of each pedal arm.
Step 7
Connect the wires located on the underside of the console unit to those protruding from the top of the console support. Bolt the console unit onto the top of the support. Connect the elliptical's AC adapter and plug the device into a grounded electrical outlet.
