The White Chocolate Mocha is a coffee drink on the menu at the popular coffee house chain Starbucks. The drink consists of espresso mixed with milk and syrup flavored like white chocolate. It is offered in several sizes and is customizable as you can order it with full-, low-, or non-fat milk and with or without whipped cream. Consider the nutrition content of this decadent drink before your next order so you fully understand what impact it has on your daily calorie and fat intake.

Standard Order

A standard white chocolate mocha comes in a grande, or 16 oz. size, with 2 percent milk and whipped cream. This version contains 470 calories, 18 g of fat -- 12 g of which are saturated. It provides 15 g of protein and 63 g of carbohydrates. It also provides 240 mg of sodium and 50 mg of cholesterol. Use whole milk instead of 2 percent and add 30 calories and 4 g of fat -- 2 g of which are saturated.

Saving Calories

To make the drink lighter in calories, eliminate the whipped cream and order non-fat milk. This makes a 16 oz. drink that contains 350 calories and 6 g of fat – with just 4.5 g saturated. Changing the milk and eliminating whipped cream does not affect the protein content and saves 5 g of carbohydrates. This lighter order contains just 10 mg of cholesterol. The whipped cream alone adds 70 calories and 7 g of fat.

Sugars

A standard, 16 oz. white chocolate mocha contains 59 g of sugar. Eliminating the whipped cream only saves 1 g of sugar. While some of these grams are naturally occurring in the milk, most come from the syrup added to flavor the drink. The American Heart Association recommends keeping added sugar to six teaspoons, or 24 g, daily for women and nine teaspoons, or 36 g, for men. The 16 oz. white chocolate mocha contains almost 15 tsp. of sugar.

Vitamins and Minerals

A 16 oz. white chocolate mocha contains 50 percent of the daily recommended allowance for calcium. The largest size, a venti, offers 70 percent. The type of milk you order does not affect the calcium content. A 16 oz. also offers 15 percent of the RDA for vitamin A, while a 20 oz. drink offers 20 percent.

Warning

While the 16 oz. standard order of the white chocolate mocha contains more calories than many full-sized meals, the larger, venti size is even more loaded with fat and calories. Order it with 2 percent milk and whipped cream and get a 20 oz. drink containing 580 calories and 22 g of fat. This size of drink contains 75 g of sugar – or almost 19 tsp. worth.
