Prostate cancer is a cancerous tumor that forms in the tissues of the prostate, a small, chestnut-shaped gland in men that produces a whitish fluid called seminal fluid, which nourishes and transports sperm. Not all tumors are cancerous; tumors can be benign or malignant. An overgrowth of prostate cancer cells may squeeze the urethra, which carries urine out of the body. Therefore, an enlarging prostate may block the flow of urine and the result is various urinary complications. Certain herbs appear to regulate prostate cancer cell growth, but always consult your doctor before using any herbs or herbal supplements.
Green Tea
Green tea is a product made from the dried leaves of the Asian plant Camellia sinensis. Green tea and green tea extracts have been used medicinally for thousands of years in Asia. Population-based clinical studies indicate that green tea possesses anti-carcinogenic properties, notes University of Maryland Medical Center. The protective action of green tea against prostate cancer is attributed to the biologically active flavonoids called catechins, according to Stanford University.
Saw Palmetto
Saw palmetto is a palm-like plant. The ripe fruit or berry of saw palmetto is touted for its various therapeutic uses. It can be brewed and used as an infusion or a tea. Saw palmetto is popular for its use in treating certain types of prostate infections. As such, milk thistle could be helpful in the treatment of prostate cancer.
Garlic
Garlic is an herb. It has a very long history of medicinal use, dating back to when the Egyptian pyramids were built. As a flavoring agent, garlic does make your food taste good. Nutritionists suggest consuming garlic as a regular part of the diet.
