The DetoxaTrim Diet consists of two parts. The first part is the 24 Hour Liquid Fast Flush. It requires a person to consume only the Fast Flush for 24 hours The purpose is to "detoxify" the body. After the first 24 hours, dieters beginning taking DetoxaTrim Daily Capsules. The web site for DetoxaTrim claims that its diet will detoxify, cleanse, loosen up toxins, and carry toxins from the body.

Ingredients

The DetoxaTrim Diet uses a long list of ingredients, which include chromium, which helps regulate blood sugar, probiotics, glutamine, which may help increase lean muscle, uva ursi, used as a diuretic, green leaf tea, which may stimulate fat burning, glucomannan, a dietary fiber which may decrease appetite, apple cider vinegar and grapefruit seed extract.

Claims

DetoxaTrim claims to utilize a scientific approach to weight loss and that it will "jump start your fat-burning furnace." It states that 70 percent of weight gains that affect women are due to a build up of toxins in their bodies. Although it doesn't claim to be a quick fix for weight loss, it does claim to restore proper organ function, boost your metabolism, and boost your energy.

Validity of Claims

Although DetoxaTrim cites a couple of South American research studies on its website, there is no reference information for those studies. The Diet Pill Reviews website describes the claims by DetoxaTrim as "trumped up...There is nothing to make us believe that DetoxaTrim's scientific claims are anything more than marketing jargon." It is especially critical of the health claims for hoodia, which it calls "just another name of the long list of fad diet pill ingredients that does not work."

Detox Diets

According to Katherine Zeratsky, nutritionist at the MayoClinic.com, detox diets like the DetoxaTrim diet "are popular but not scientifically proven." Although detox diets are supposed to remove toxins from the body, there is little evidence that they actually do so. As Zeratsky states, "Most ingested toxins are efficiently and effectively removed by the kidneys and liver and excreted in the urine and stool." In addition, side effects from detox diets can include dehydration, fatigue, dizziness and nausea.

Considerations

Effective diets stress the basics -- fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and exercise. The American Heart Association advises people to be wary of weight-loss pills or fad diets. Such diets can damage your health, produce unpleasant side effects, and discourage you from pursuing more promising weight-loss strategies.

If you are considering trying the DetoxaTrim diet, or any other detox diet, be sure to first get an okay from your doctor.
