Sixty-five percent of all adult deaths are related to diseases -- the majority of which are preventable, such as heart disease, cancer and stroke, according to FamilyDoctor.org. In many cases, behaviors that begin at an early age contribute to the development of these diseases. Keeping both your mind and body working in optimal condition will help to prevent these diseases. Staying healthy is not difficult, even if you have a busy schedule.

Exercise

Physical activity can help you to prevent at least six different diseases, according to the Federal Citizen Information Center in Pueblo, Colorado. These include high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and mental disorders. A regular exercise program can help you maintain a healthy weight. You should speak with your physician before starting any daily exercise program to ensure you are healthy enough to perform your desired activities.

Nutrition

The basics of nutrition follow the concept of the food pyramid while taking into account health status, lifestyle and dietary likes and dislikes. You need a proper amount of nutrients, calories and foods from the major food groups, according to MayoClinic.com. Your body pulls the vitamins and minerals it requires for cell growth and development from food. A well-balanced diet will help to prevent diseases by providing your body with building blocks for strong cell growth.

Weight Control

One out of every three children between the ages of 2 and 19 are overweight or obese, according to KidsHealth. Two out of every three adults are overweight or obese. Weight problems can lead to health issues for both adults and children. Obesity makes it more difficult to play, increases fatigue and causes aches and pains while also leading to diabetes, stroke and heart disease.

Sleep

A lack of sleep may lead to high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, reduced immune function, decreased pain tolerance and sleep-related motor vehicle accidents, according to HealthCentral. The recommended amount of sleep is between 7 and 8 hours per night, with the majority of those hours between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Safe Sex

Sexually transmitted diseases, or STDs, are passed between two people through sexual intercourse. These are more common in people younger than 50, but they may occur at any age if one partner has an STD, according to the Federal Citizen Information Center. These diseases include herpes, syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia, as well as HIV and AIDS. These can be prevented through abstinence, monogamy and sharing sexual health information with any new partner.
