More than 25 million Americans have gallbladder disease, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. The gallbladder works in conjunction with the liver to promote the break-down of fats during digestion. Bile, the acidic substance that breaks down fats, is produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder for use throughout the day. Rapid weight fluctuations, dieting and nutritional selections impact the gallbladder's health and can incite gallbladder diseases. Cholelithiasis, or gallstones and cholecystitis, or gallbladder infection may be promoted by poor nutritional choices.
Fiber, Fruits and Vegetables
A well-balanced diet with myriad natural whole food choices can promote gallbladder health and are good for the gallbladder. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services suggests that a diet rich in fibrous foods, such as fresh vegetables and grains, can reduce the risk of gallstones. The website Gallbladder Attack encourages a gallbladder diet with tomatoes and avocados and fruits such as lemons and grapes. Lentils, legumes and dried fruits are full of digestible fiber.
Hold the Batter
Fried foods are proven to irritate such conditions as cholecystitis and cholelithiasis. Fat is an important part of the diet and the main reason for having a gallbladder, however fats should only provide 20 to 35 percent of the total daily calories according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Too much daily fat intake will overwork the gallbladder and can cause disease. Avoid any foods that are fried as these will be rich in concentrated fats and hard on the gallbladder.

Abstain from caffeine sources, including chocolate and coffee, as they are bad for the gallbladder.
