Eating a healthy breakfast is the nutritious way to start your day. Not only does it refuel your body, it also enhances how you feel, improves your ability to function at school or work and positively impacts your health and weight. Some healthy breakfast ideas include whole-grain pita bread stuffed with hard-boiled eggs; whole-wheat crackers with peanut butter or low-fat cheese; or a sandwich made with whole-grain bread, lean meat and cheese.

Weight Loss and Maintenance

You will be better able to lose weight or maintain your weight if you eat breakfast on a daily basis, according to MayoClinic.com. When you eat a healthy breakfast, you're less likely to grab unhealthy snacks or overeat at other meals due to hunger. Also, fasting overnight and then going without breakfast causes your body to store fat and gain pounds due to an increased response to insulin. Include a high-fiber cereal in your breakfast to lose or maintain your weight, Harvard Health Publications advises. Choose a cereal with at least 6 g of fiber per serving, with less than 10 g of sugar.

Academic Success

Eating breakfast regularly may play a significant role in academic success. Children who eat breakfast not only succeed academically but have less behavioral and emotional issues, according to University of Wisconsin Extension News. Breakfast helps to improve your concentration and provide the energy your brain needs to function well throughout the day. Children who eat breakfast are also more alert, have better problem-solving skills, are more creative, miss fewer days of school and are more physically active than those who don't, notes MayoClinic.com.

Better Overall Health

Your general health will benefit by eating breakfast on a regular basis. When you eat breakfast, you're more likely to make nutritious food choices and eat more fruits and vegetables throughout the day. You are also more likely to consume more vitamins and minerals. If you eat breakfast daily, you are likely to have a lower cholesterol level, which decreases your risk of heart disease. Adding high-fiber cereal or whole grains to a healthy breakfast may not only help you lose and maintain weight, but it may also decrease your risk for stroke, heart disease, colon polyps, colon cancer and diabetes, according to Harvard Health Publications.
