Keeping your colon healthy is essential for overall health. Everything you eat passes through the colon and there is a potential for a build-up of toxins. If toxins persist in the colon they can cause weight gain, candida yeast and digestive diseases. Cleansing the colon is a good way to prevent toxic buildup. There are a number of colon cleansers on the market. You should consult your physician before using a colon cleanser.
Blessed Herbs
Blessed Herbs manufacturers claim that you need to fast while using this colon cleanser, and drink plenty of water or juice. This particular colon cleanser is composed of herbs and bentonite clay. The herbal combination acts as a mild laxative. The clay cannot be absorbed by the body but is used in some colon cleansers to absorb toxins and parasites and eliminate them from the body. Bentonite clay is derived from aluminum, which makes some people uncomfortable about using it. The FDA does include bentonite clay on its GRAS, or generally regarded as safe, list.
Dr. Natura's Colonix
Dr. Natura's Colonix, a blend of fiber and herbs, bulks up the stool while the herbs have a mild laxative effect so that any blockages are removed from the colon and waste can pass painlessly. According to the manufacturer, you can use the Colonix program for one to three months, depending on whether you have used it before or how you feel after the second month. This colon cleanse does not require any special dieting or fasting. Colonix recommends that you take two to four capsules with a fiber shake in the morning and five capsules in the evening with a cup of herbal tea.
Colothin
Colothin's main active ingredient is psyllium. Psyllium comes from the dried husk of the Plantago psyllium plant. It is a water-soluble, bulk-forming fiber. It acts as a mild laxative by easing the transit of waste stool through the colon. According to Colothin's manufacturer, Colothin also removes parasites from your intestinal tract. Because it removes any blockages from the colon and facilitates regular bowel movements, Colothin may help you loose between 10 and 20 lbs.
Digestit
Digestit, described as a gentle colon cleaner, contains probiotics, the beneficial live bacteria that naturally inhabit the gastrointestinal tract. The manufacturer claims that Digestit contains more than 9 billion live probiotic organisms, enabling it to rebalance the intestinal eco-flora, relieve constipation and boost the immune system
Warning
According to Michael Picco, M.D., very little medical research exists to support the benefits of colon cleansers. Picco states that it is normally unnecessary and in certain cases may even be dangerous. Another factor to bear in mind is that colon cleansing can cause dehydration, which can be dangerous. If you are considering using a colon cleanser, you should speak to your physician first.
