It is possible to enjoy the benefits of a safe liver cleanse that contains all natural ingredients. A liver cleanse can be performed twice a year to help remove excess cholesterol from the liver and gallbladder and prevent the growth and development of calcified minerals, more commonly known as stones in the kidneys and gallbladder. A liver cleanse can be done in the privacy of the home with a minimum of inexpensive ingredients to provide a gentle cleansing action that promotes and maintains a healthy liver.
Ingredients
Common ingredients of a safe liver cleanse may include 4 tbsp. of Epsom salt, the juice of one large grapefruit, 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil and 3 cups of water. This is a common and safe mixture of ingredients.
Schedule
Most people do the liver cleanse on the weekend, starting with Saturday, so they can be at home near the bathroom while the effects of the liver cleanse are most apparent. On the day of the cleanse, eat a low fat breakfast and lunch. Most people limit their intake of foods to cooked cereals and raw fruit or fruit juice. Don't drink or eat anything after 2 p.m. in the afternoon.
Prepare
The next step in the process is to mix the Epsom salt with the water. This mixture can be poured into a jar that will make approximately four servings of 3/4 cup each. While the mixture isn't the most pleasant to taste, it can be made more palatable if it's very cold. However, if you wish, you can substitute 3 cups of grapefruit juice for the 3 cups of water for easier drinking.
Drink
Now that your Epsom salt and water or juice mixture is very chilled, drink your first 3/4 cup serving at around 6 p.m. Feel free to rinse out your mouth when you're done. At 8 p.m., drink a second serving of the Epsom salt mixture (again 3/4 cup).
Evacuation
By about 9:45 p.m., individuals can pour about 1/2 a cup of olive oil into a jar and squeeze between 1/2 and 3/4 of a cup of grapefruit juice and pulp into the olive oil. Cover the jar and shake vigorously until it's well mixed and watery. Leave at room temperature and then visit the bathroom for your first evacuation. Following the bathroom visit, the person drinks the olive oil and grapefruit juice and pulp mixture and then goes to bed immediately after.
Finishing Up
After 6 a.m. the following morning, drink the last of the Epsom salt mixture and wait for two hours before eating. Most individuals break their fast by drinking fruit juice, followed a half hour later by raw fruit, then an hour later with a light meal, such as cooked cereal.
