Weight is often a sensitive issue. Often, you are either trying to lose weight or gain it. For individuals with a fast metabolism or who are underweight because of a medical condition, gaining weight can become one of their goals.

Calories in a Pound

There are 3,500 calories in 1 lb. Therefore, to gain 30 lbs., you would need to consume 105,000 excess calories beyond what your body burns to provide energy for body processes and physical activity. To gain 30 lbs. in 30 days, you would have to consume 3,500 excess calories a day. If you maintain your weight currently by consuming a 2,000-calorie diet, you would have to add 3,500 calories on top of 2,000. Therefore, you would have to consume 5,500 calories a day.

High-Calorie Foods

To take in 5,500 calories a day, you may have to take a supplement such as a weight gainer or high-calorie shake. Other healthier ways to reach this calorie requirement are by focusing on calorie-dense foods such as healthy fats, concentrated fruits, such as raisins, and complex carbohydrates. Eat frequent meals rather than large calorie-dense meals.

Health Warnings

Consult a nutritionist or doctor before drastically changing your caloric intake. If you try to gain weight by consuming overly processed, fatty and fried foods, you may be significantly harming your health.
