The OneTouch Ultra 2 is a compact blood glucose monitoring system that allows you to quickly and effectively check your blood sugar levels after meals and throughout the day. Doing so helps monitor the impact that your diet and medications have on your blood sugar. According to the American Diabetes Association, monitoring your blood sugar regularly helps keep it as normal as possible, which in turn helps prevent complications, such as eye, nerve and kidney damage.
Step 1
Set up your meter. Position your test strip so that the side with the three bars is facing you. Insert the test strip into your meter and, without bending it, press it in as far as you can. Check the package your strips came in for their code number. Use the up and down arrows to change the number on your screen until it matches your code. Press the "OK" button when you have the right code.
Step 2
Prepare the area you're going to test--finger, forearm or palm. Wash it with soap and warm water and pat it dry. Choose a different site than the last place you tested to allow the previous site to heal.
Step 3
Prepare your blood sampler. Gently remove the blue end cap and place a fresh lancet inside the sampler. Twist the removable top from the lancet and discard it. Press the blue cap back on the end of the sampler. Pull back the device latch to cock the sampler for release.
Step 4
Take a blood sample. Place the sampler against the finger, forearm or palm that you prepped in Step 2. Press the "Release" button to release the cocked lancet. Milk out a drop of blood by squeezing and massaging the area. You want a round ball-shaped blood drop.
Step 5
Touch the test strip on your meter to your blood drop. Look to your meter's screen and notice the indicator that reports how much blood the test strip has collected. Keep the strip against your blood drop until it is stated on your meter's collection indicator that you have a large enough sample.
Step 6
Wait a few seconds for your blood sugar results to appear. Record them to share with your doctor at your next appointment. Remove and discard the test strip, and place your meter back in its protective case.
Tips and Warnings
- Make sure your meter and test trips are approximately the same temperature to avoid inaccurate results. Always double check to make sure your test trip code and the code displayed on your screen are the same.
