Overview

The Hallelujah Diet is a vegan diet promoted by Hallelujah Acres, a non-denominational Christian ministry. The Hallelujah Diet is based on biblical interpretations of how humans are supposed to eat and be healthy.

History

The Hallelujah Diet and Hallelujah Acres were created by Reverend George Malkmus. The diet is based on his dietary changes after he successfully used them to combat colon cancer in the 1970s.

Function

According to Diets in Review, the Hallelujah Diet consists of 15 percent cooked foods and 85 percent raw foods. Raw foods are more nutritious, and are believed to be more consistent with God's health recommendations in the Bible.

Benefits

The Hallelujah Diet consists of healthy foods like raw fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, dairy alternatives, olive oil, garlic, fruit smoothies and vegetable juices. Such foods can promote weight loss as well as prevent chronic illnesses.

Restrictions

Restricted foods in the Hallelujah Diet include meats, refined grains, hydrogenated oils, packaged or canned items, and dairy products. Alcohol, caffeinated tea, sports drinks soda and coffee are also restricted.

Precautions

Diets in Review.com states that the restrictions of the Hallelujah Diet may cause you to relapse into old habits. Unless you truly feel that you can completely adhere to this diet for good, you may want to try an alternate diet. Check with your doctor to see which options are best for you.
