Staying fit and healthy requires eating properly and daily exercise, but it also requires staying informed about the latest developments and recommendations for health and wellness. Accurate and accessible information changes over the years, so staying up-to-date can help you take control of your health and have a good quality of life. If you would like to learn more about fitness and nutrition, check out good sources of information in your community and online.

Step 1

Schedule an appointment with your doctor in order to talk about your health, nutrition and fitness concerns. If you want to know how much you should be exercising, what you should be eating and more about your personal general health, your physician can give you the best information without biased opinions or encouragement toward fad diets and exercise crazes. You'll get straightforward information on how to improve your own diet and fitness level.

Step 2

Register for a class with your community parks and recreation department, or with your county health department. Each may offer classes about health, fitness, nutrition and wellness to the general public, where you can learn more about fitness and nutrition recommendations from licensed professionals in a casual setting.

Step 3

Read up on fitness and nutrition issues by checking the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition website on a daily basis. The website offers the latest health and wellness news, including the latest studies, articles and recommendations for improving your own fitness and nutrition. Or, subscribe to a newspaper with an extensive health section, like "The New York Times."

Step 4

Sign up to spend time with a personal trainer, either privately in your home or through a nearby gym. A trainer can help you assess your health and wellness goals and help you plan a workout schedule and diet plan that will suit your needs. A personal fitness trainer has usually received extensive training in physiology and diet, so you can learn more about your own body, take part in a workout for your fitness challenges and plan a healthier diet.

Step 5

Register with an accredited school if you think that fitness and nutrition sounds like the right profession for you. You could become a nutritionist, registered dietitian, personal trainer or fitness coach through the right programs in a college or university near you. If you're always looking for the latest information and want to make your interest in health, fitness and nutrition a career, an accredited school or American Fitness Professionals & Associates program can help you take your interest to the next level.
