Proponents of detox foot baths or ionic foot baths claim they remove impurities from your body. Factors that can cause toxic build-up include smoking, alcoholic beverages, environmental pollutants and preservatives from the foods you eat. A detox foot bath involves soaking your feet in positively and negatively charged salt water solution to pull toxins out of your body through your feet, reports the International Institute of Holistic Healing. There is no scientific evidence that supports the effectiveness of detox foot baths. Detoxing with an ionic foot bath, however, is believed to help improve your overall health.

Energy Boost

Toxic build-up can leave you lacking energy and feeling lethargic. Flushing toxins from the body is believed help to improve your energy levels. The International Institute for Holistic Healing claims that sitting with your feet in an ionic foot bath can help draw out the waste products that are zapping your energy.

Improved Health

Removing toxins and waste from your body is believed to help enhance your immune system. The detox foot bath pulls the toxins out of your body and into the water which causes the water to change color. The color of the water determines which parts of your body were affected by the cleanse. For example, if the water turns dark green, your gallbladder was cleansed, notes the Ventura Center for Healing.

Reduce Stress

Cleansing the body may decrease stress levels. Sitting with your feet in a warm detox foot bath can have a calming effect. The International Institute for Holistic Healing claims that cleansing toxic waste from your body can relive conditions like headaches that can increase stress levels.

Convenience

An ionic foot bath only requires 30 minutes to complete a session. Detox diets, meanwhile, take days to complete and require choosing from very limited food choices or fasting. Detox products such as teas and supplements also can take days to remove toxins.
