How to Use OneTouch Ultra

For patients with diabetes, blood glucose monitoring is essential. Patients need to check their blood glucose levels several times a day to make sure that their blood sugar does not get too high or too low. There are many different machines and kits that allow you to test your blood sugar levels at home. The OneTouch Ultra machine is a blood glucose tester designed for ease of use.

Step 1

Insert a lancet. To do this, first take off the cap on the lancet holder and insert a fresh lancet (single-use lancets are provided with the OneTouch Ultra kit). Push the lancet down (without twisting) until it is secure in the lancet holder. Cock the sampler by pulling back on the cocking slide until it clicks.

Step 2

Obtain a blood sample. First, wash the area from which you will obtain the blood sample. Then, hold the sampler flush against the blood-sample area and press the release button.

Step 3

Squeeze and massage the tip of your finger to ensure that you get a well-formed drop of blood (at least 1 millimeter in diameter).

Step 4

Insert a test strip into the meter. The test strip should be inserted with its contact bars going in first and facing upwards. The meter will turn on and will briefly run a self-test to make sure it is working properly. Then a small icon will appear in the shape of a drop of liquid.

Step 5

Press the drop of blood against the top edge of the other end of the test strip until the blood has filled the "confirmation window."

Step 6

Wait five seconds (the screen will count down) to get your results.
