Gluten-free foods are those without wheat, rye, barley, oats, millet and any derivative of grains. These foods are necessary for those with celiac disease or who follow a gluten-free diet. Sifting through the products in grocery stores can be tedious; having a general list of name brand gluten-free foods is beneficial and can help save time shopping. This list, however, is subject to change (and varies from country to country), as products may be altered by the manufacturer. Most gluten-free products are clearly labeled as such.
Breakfast
Rice Chex, made by General Mills, changed its formula to accommodate gluten-free dieters. In 2008, a gluten-free Chex emerged, using molasses in place of barley malt syrup. Other cereals that are gluten free include Health Valley's Blue Corn Flakes, Rice Cunch-Ems and Ralston Creamy Rice hot cereal. Other breakfast choices might include General Mills' Yoplait yogurts (without granola or other toppings) and Del Monte fruit cups.
Soups and Snacks
Campbell Soup Co. has offered soups in a host of varieties used for baking casseroles, complimenting meals and as a light lunch option. You can still enjoy some of these soups while adhering to a gluten-free diet. Savory Lentil (19oz), lower sodium Beef Broth (14 oz) RTS Chicken Broth (14.5 oz) and all sizes of Natural Goodness Chicken Broth are acceptable. Snack brands and items include Sun Maid Natural Sun Dried-Raisins, Newman's Own Butter, Natural and Light Butter variety microwave popcorn, Health Valley Tropical Fruit and Apple Crisp Fat Free Healthy Crisp Rice Bars and Kozy Shack pudding products.
Meats
Gluten-free meats include packaged cold cuts, packaged meats and sausages. Jimmy Dean products that are gluten free include fresh sausage, Special Recipe and Hot Roll Sausage, skinless sausage links, dinner sausage and patties. Oscar Meyer gluten-free sandwich meats include beef bologna, bologna made with chicken or pork, ham and cheese loaf, Honey Ham with water added, smoked or cooked ham, Beef Cotto Salami, Genoa, beef summer sausage, Braunschweiger liver sausage and Oven Roasted white or smoked turkey. Louis Rich Ground Turkey, Turkey Sausage and White Turkey Patties are frozen, raw meats that are also gluten-free.
