Cannaday Fishing in Ocean City

Buddy Cannady is known for building high-quality Carolina-style boats. He founded B&B Boats along with Billy Maxwell in 2000 at Manteo, North Carolina. In the sport-fishing hotbed of Ocean City, Maryland, as of October 2010 a Cannady-built boat christened Moore Bills provided year-round charter service. The Moore Bills was built in 2006 and is a 60-foot Carolina Sport Fisher that cruises at 30 knots and is fitted with modern electronics.

Amenities

Moore Bills operates from the Ocean City Fishing Center. Rob Skillman is a U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captain of the boat and oversees an experienced crew. The vessel can accommodate up to six fishermen and features air conditioning, satellite television and radio, a touch screen video game, spacious salon, microwave oven and bathroom.

Seasons

Moore Bills targets tuna, marlin, wahoo, shark and dolphin. Bluefin tuna are in season during May, June, September and October. Yellowfin and big eye tuna are in season during June to October. White and blue marlin are caught during the months of July, August and September, while wahoo are in season during August and September. Mako shark are caught in June; tiger and thresher shark are in season in May. Dolphin season lasts from July to September.

Preparations

You must contact Captain Skillman to make a charter reservation on Moore Bills. Items to bring include a light jacket, food, rain gear, sunscreen, sunglasses, camera and a dry change of clothes. A cooler to take fish home with should be left in a car until after the boat returns to dock. Motion sickness medicines should be taken the night before a charter. All of the equipment needed to fish with is provided by the crew.

Rates

As of October 2010 the rate for an offshore charter was $2,400, and fishing for shark cost $2,000. A full inshore charter was $1,700 and a half-inshore charter was $1,300. An overnight charter cost $4,000 and a 30-hour outing was $4,400. Tipping the crew 15 to 20 percent is encouraged for all charter boasts that operate from Ocean City Fishing Center. A fishing license is not required to fish in and around Ocean City, including the offshore Atlantic Ocean. The Moore Bills has a strict policy stating that no firearms, illegal drugs, hard liquor or glass bottles are permitted on board.

Considerations

Ocean City Fishing Center includes a marina, charter fishing fleet, a bait and tackle shop and other facilities. After returning to shore you can have your catch prepared by a professional fish cleaning service. And a popular hangout for many anglers is Micky Fin's Bar and Grill. There are also fishing tournaments that you can enter at various times during the year.
