Many diets on the market require purchasing food or paying for group meetings in order to participate in the program. At the same time, there are a few diets that can be followed without shelling out a dime, except for a normal grocery store bill. Although these diets have books which outline how to follow their procedures, most of the information necessary can easily be found online.
Check with your doctor before beginning any new diet program. Depending on your current health needs, these diets may lack necessary nutrients to keep you healthy.
Master Cleanse
One of the most well known 10-day diet plans is the Master Cleanse. According to the book, "Lose Weight, Have More Energy & Be Happier in 10 Days," by Peter Glickman, drinking eight glasses a day of maple syrup, lemon, and cayenne pepper mixed in water for 10 days will lead to weight loss and better health. Supposed benefits range from stopping cravings, to detoxifying the body, to improving general outlook.
This controversial diet is lauded by some as a way to cleanse the body of toxins, while many experts say it can cause more harm than good. Because this diet lacks protein and fats, the body may begin to break down muscles and tissues for nutrients.
Climate Neutral Diet
Dan Worth, Executive Director of the National Association of Environmental Law Societies, stumbled upon the "Climate Neutral Diet" on a trip to Paris. He lost 10 pounds in 10 days by traveling only on the Metro, which is often accessible only by climbing flights of stairs in order to switch lines. He, along with his wife, also walked the mile or two to their final destination after disembarking from the train. They freely indulged in rich French food, which is primarily made from whole foods with little refined or processed food present. This combination of consistently walking each day and eating real food purportedly allowed for the weight loss.
The Diet of Daniel
Another 10-day diet that can be followed without purchasing products is the Diet of Daniel. A Christian-based diet, this 10-day approach maintains certain guidelines such as being specific, fasting as a spiritual commitment, and reflecting inner desire by external discipline. In the book, "The Diet of Daniel: A 10 Day Diet to Blessed Health, Weight Loss, and Fitness," author Ernest Edsel notes this diet is based on the Old Testament and what Daniel ate after being captured, when he shunned the rich diet of the King of Babylon. It is based on the idea that after 10 days, Daniel was healthier eating this diet than other captives who ate the King's diet.
It is a partial fasting diet, based on removing meat, dairy, fats and refined foods. The focus should be on vegetables and fruits, with the addition of nuts and seeds, brown rice, oats and barley, and beans.
