If you're expecting triplets, it's understandable if you're a little daunted by all the information available. Learning how many calories you need to eat in a day is a first step in making sure you and all three of your babies stay healthy.

Identification

According to BabyCenter, you should eat 300 calories per day beyond your normal food intake for each baby you're carrying, or 900 calories a day for triplets. Therefore, if you were at a normal weight before you became pregnant, you will need to eat around 3,100 calories every day.

Time Frame

BabyCenter recommends that you eat five times a day, even if you don't feel hungry. This can be particularly important as you progress in your pregnancy, as you will have less room in your stomach for food but will need to still eat this large calorie total.

Considerations

According to the March of Dimes, eating right helps to reduce the risk of complications with your babies. The March of Dimes emphasizes that this is particularly important for moms of multiples, because you have an inherently higher risk for premature birth and small babies than moms of singletons.
