The Green Mill is a restaurant chain found throughout the midwestern United States. Many people know the Green Mill for its wood-fired pizza menu. However, the restaurant has a good mix of healthy items on its menu. Reading the menu closely and planning your meal ahead of time will help you find items that fit your dietary preferences.

Healthy Entrees

The Green Mill menu lists several items low in calories and fat. The Lemon Pepper Chicken meal is low in calories with 290 and 7 g of fat. Two salads that are good options are the Thai Garden Salad and Cilantro Lime Shrimp Salad, with both having 365 calories. The Thai salad has 10 g fat, while the Cilantro Lime has 7 g fat. A good sandwich option is the Grilled Mediterranean Sandwich with 375 calories and 6 g of fat. Additional side items served with these meals are not included in the nutritional data.

Pizza

The Green Mill Restaurant serves wood-fired pizzas. While these menu items are appealing to most restaurant patrons, one pizza is high in fat and calories when consumed by a single person. One Pescara hand-tossed specialty pizza comes with 1,920 calories and 45 g of fat, while a Chicken Romano Classic thin-crust pizza comes with 1,360 calories and 52 g of fat. A Spicy Garlic Chicken and Bacon pizza is slightly lower with 990 calories and 45 g of fat. The calories in these menu items are more manageable when split by two to three people.

Side Items

Green Mill Restaurants serve their entree menu items with a choice of sides. The healthiest options are steamed vegetables, a side salad or broth-based soup. Ask for two vegetable sides if you are concerned about the total calories and fat in the meal. Avoid ordering fried or high-carbohydrate side items such as french fries, baked potatoes with butter and sour cream or onion rings if you are concerned about the fat content.

Considerations

The Green Mill does not advertise or publish the nutritional data for its menu items. Ask a restaurant staff member for nutrition information on menu items. If the restaurant does not have a printed copy, a kitchen staff member should be able to give you information on how the items are prepared so you can make the best choices for your diet preferences.

Warnings

Green Mill Restaurants serve large entree portions for many of their items. Ask for a take-out container when the wait staff brings you the meal if you are concerned about the amount of food you are consuming. This allows you to split the entree in half and take it home for another meal.
