Skin tags are small, benign growths on the body. They are quite harmless and do not cause any pain. Some people are more prone to skin tags than others are, including people who are overweight. Castor oil may help with the removal of skin tags.
Skin Tags
According to Medical News Today, skin tags, also known as acrochordons or cutaneous papilloma, are small pieces of hanging skin. They can appear anywhere on the body but are most common in areas where skin is rubbing on skin, such as the armpits, beneath the breasts, and the groin. Skin tags are not cancerous and are painless. They may fall off by themselves, quite painlessly. Otherwise, they can be easily removed without causing any pain or scarring.
Risk Factors
There is a higher risk for skin tags in people who are overweight or obese, pregnant women, people suffering from diabetes and people using illegal steroids. There may also be a genetic component between close family members.
Castor Oil
Castor oil is made from the seeds of the castor oil plant (Ricinus communis). It has been used for more than 4,000 year in medicine. For several decades, it was used as a laxative for children. According to Organic Facts, castor oil may have a number of other health benefits, such as protecting the scalp from fungal and microbial infections, treating skin disorders, and improving rheumatism and gout.
Castor Oil for Skin Tags
MyHealthnFitness.com recommends mixing some castor oil with baking soda to form a paste. Apply the paste to your skin tags three or four times each day. Covering the area with a bandage will keep the paste moist. The treatment is not painful and within two weeks, the skin tag will supposedly dry up and fall off. However, there is no evidence to support the effectiveness of this treatment.
Warning
According to Innvista, the seeds of the castor oil plant are toxic and should not be ingested. Castor oil should not be used by pregnant or lactating women. Castor oil should not be used as a laxative more often than once every two to three weeks.
