As with most foods and beverages, the adage of consumption in moderation applies to wines. One glass of wine supplies limited calories. If the glass of wine turns into a few glasses or a bottle on most nights, however, those calories can quickly add up to pounds along your waistline.

Red Wines

All red wines have about the same amount of calories. A 5 oz. glass of burgundy, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, pinot noir or zinfandel contains about 125 calories.

White Wines

A 5 oz. glass of white wine, including chenin blanc, pinot gris, sauvignon blanc and Semillon, contains about 120 calories.

Champagne

One flute of Champagne contains approximately 89 calories and 11.6 percent alcohol. Because a flute tends to hold a slightly smaller portion of Champagne, the calories are measured as a 4 oz. glass.

Port

A serving of port wine, measuring about 2 oz., has about 95 calories and 20 percent alcohol content.

Rose

Lighter rose wines, often referred to as blush, contain about 85 calories per 4 oz. glass, and is around 11 percent alcohol.
