Not all calories are created equal. Not only does McDonald's come packed with enough calories to potentially reach your recommended daily calories in one meal, a large portion of those calories comes from unhealthy fats.
Breakfast
The Big Breakfast, which comes with hotcakes and a large biscuit, weighs in at 1150 calories, half of which are from fats. For a "lighter" breakfast, McDonald's serves a sausage McMuffin with Egg, which contains 450 calories, more than half of which are from fats.
Burgers and Chicken
A McDonald's staple, the Big Mac has 540 calories. The Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese has 740 calories -- 380 of those from fat. If you are looking for a leaner option, unfortunately the Chicken Selects Premium Breasts Strips, with 660 calories, is not it. Add the Creamy Ranch Sauce for an additional 170 calories.
Salads
McDonald's offers a few low-calorie options. A Premium Caesar Salad with no chicken and Newman's Own Low Fat Balsamic Vinaigrette contains only 110 calories, although 60 of those are fat calories. Add the chicken and croutons and change the dressing to Caesar and your low-calorie meal now has 580 calories and 335 fat calories.
Beverages
Just because it's liquefied doesn't mean it doesn't count. A 22 oz. Chocolate McCafe Shake is 880 calories. The 32 oz. Chocolate Triple Thick Shake is 1160 calories. At 310 calories, a large Coke can stealthily add substantial calories to your meals.
