Aurora, Ontario, Canada--about 30 minutes north of Toronto--is located in the hills of the Oak Ridges Moraine. The town has more than 500 acres of parks, pedestrian trail systems and championship golf courses. If the weather has turned cold or rainy, however, the town has many fitness clubs where you can get your daily exercise indoors.
Keep Moving
Fitness Clubs of Canada in Aurora offers enough cardio equipment and weight machines so you won't have unwanted breaks in your fitness routine, its website says. It offers machine brands such as Life Fitness for multiple-muscle work; Cybex, including its Arc Trainer, for cardio training; and Hammer Strength for resistance training and total conditioning. The club also offers television consoles built into cardio equipment, large-screen overhead TVs and music to get you moving, so you will have plenty to choose from to help keep your energy up. Side services the club offers include an energy juice bar, a steam room and a child care center.
Well-Rounded
The Timberlane Athletic Club, which started as a private club, has been operating for about 20 years and now has more than 2,500 members. The club offers services such as a bike studio and a full-service fitness studio, as well as tennis courts, golf and even a dining facility and activities for children. If you're unsure about becoming a member of the facility, the club offers a free two-week pass for you to check it out.
Personal Training
Focus Fitness is a private facility on the north side of Aurora. The trainers at Focus Fitness work to train your muscles all at once instead of one at a time. The studio specializes in one-on-one or pairs training, small-group training and professional boot camp training. Some areas of focus include: toning, weight loss, strength, core, function, sports, post-rehab and health. If cost is a factor for you, the studio will work with you to determine the best course to take.
Learn Techniques
Goodlife Fitness has clubs throughout Canada, including Aurora. If you choose to join Goodlife--and you can try it out with three free visits beforehand--your membership entitles you to many club services. You can take part in fitness orientations so you can learn proper techniques; take part in group exercise classes; and use cardiovascular, flexibility or strengthening equipment. You can also reach out to the Club Associates for support, motivation and coaching. Each club has its own set of amenities, so check with the club you choose to see what it offers.
For the Kids
Kids need to stay fit, too, and there's a club in Aurora just for them--Kids Supergym. Kids Supergym focuses on gymnastics, which helps children develop strength, flexibility and poise. The gym opened in 1992. In 2007, ownership was turned over to Wendy Gillies, who was on the Canadian national gymnastics team from 1974 to 1977. In 1975, she was ranked 51st in the world. Included in Kids Supergym's offerings are recreational gymnastics, competitive gymnastics, trampoline, power tumbling, cheerleading and camps. It also offers a venue for birthday parties.
