The Shapely Secrets Diet Plan advertises fitness without movement and seven secrets that assure a shapely body once and for all. The program is so secretive that it doesn't reveal the exercises or the seven secrets in detail until you have purchased the program, although certain principles can be described.
History
Founded by Greer Childers, Shapely Secrets Diet Plan is based on a program she designed for herself over 20 years ago. Childers claims she developed the program after she found herself at a size 14 with three children, a busy lifestyle and no time to exercise. Shapely Secrets consists of exercise and breathing techniques promoted as a whole body strengthening program.
Features
Shapely Secrets is based on exercise Childers calls diametric resistance. Diametric resistance is the same as isometric training, in muscles contract when pulling or pushing on an immovable object. For example, pushing against a wall would be diametric, or isometric, resistance. Childers claims users will get a full body workout in seven minutes using her diametric resistance, motionless exercise program that, according to her advertising, has been university tested. Also included is the guide called "7 Secrets to Being Thin & Shapely," which she claims outlines scientifically based steps to help you lose weight without counting calories.
Expert Insight
Shapely Secrets exercises have not been tested by universities. However, isometric training, or diametric resistance as Childers identifies it, has been tested. The first isometric exercise study was published in the European Journal of Applied Physiology and Occupational Physiology in 1953. This study reported strength gains from once daily, 6-econd isometric contractions. A 1992 a report in the Cardiology Clinics journal found that while isometric exercise can increase strength, it also increases blood pressure and provides fewer cardiovascular benefits than the dynamic exercise involved in walking or weight lifting.
Benefits
Shapely Secrets diet plan may provide some strength benefits as well as minor weight loss in previously sedentary individuals. The investment of only 7 minutes per day may motivate otherwise sedentary people to begin an exercise program. The Shapely Secrets guide encourages keeping a daily food journal, knowing how many calories you burn each day, eating low-calorie foods, drinking 64 oz. of water per day, keeping temptation foods out of sight, doing the 7-minute exercises and exercising with a friend. While these aren't "secret," they may be useful for weight loss.
Considerations
The Shapely Secrets exercises have never been tested in university studies, as Greer Childers claims, and she does not provide citations for those studies. The diametric exercises advertised are not revealed in the commercial or website and must be purchased in order to try them. In 2003 the FTC sued Greer Childers and her partners for falsely advertising an exercise and weight loss program.
