There are so many fad diets out there that many people often lose sight of one of the key components of weight loss. That is, eating low-fat foods as much as possible. It might not be easy, but there are surprisingly tasty low-fat food options available to get you started on the right kind of weight loss program.
Grains
Several kinds of grains can be added to the diet to help you stay low-fat and start shedding pounds. These grains include pastas that eliminate the creams sauces and stick to marinara or vegetables, bran flakes, oatmeal, reduced fat granola or rice cakes. Whole wheat pasta is another nice, high-fiber and low-fat alternative.
Dairy
Dairy products are often high in fat by their very nature, but you can still get the calcium you need without all of the unnecessary fat. Skim milk or 2 percent milk obviously contains less fat than whole milk. You can also opt for sorbet instead of ice cream as well as reduced fat cheese, plain yogurt and imitation whipped cream. Of course, you can't load up on dairy products, just because they are low-fat, but you can include them as a part of a well-balanced diet.
Meats
White meat from turkey or chicken are good options, as are pork tenderloin, egg whites, fish, turkey sausage, tuna packed in water, and very lean ground beef. Maintaining a low-fat diet is all about moderation. By choosing low-fat alternatives to higher fat foods (like an egg white omelette instead of a whole egg omelette) you can enjoy the foods you like, while still keeping the weight off.
Produce
Any fruit or vegetable you can add to your diet would be a good choice for sticking to a low-fat menu. While some produce like avocado is high in fat, it is high in good Omega-3 fatty acids, which means that it is still a good diet addition. Just so long as your entire diet isn't made up of avocado, you'll be fine in shedding the pounds and keeping them off.
Treats
Just because you are on a low-fat diet doesn't mean you have to avoid tasty treats. You just have to be smart about it. Opt for air-popped popcorn instead of the kind popped in oil. Instead of high fat pudding, try pudding made with skim milk instead. While ice cream may be tempting, it is loaded with fat. Instead, try frozen yogurt. You can even add in fresh fruit for an added health factor that just so happens to be delicious.
