Muscle Milk, by CytoSport, is a supplement that promotes fat loss and helps in building lean muscle. It provides the body with essential nutrients such as proteins and calcium, in addition to providing medium-chain triglycerides, which are quite important for burning fat. The "Columbus Dispatch" reports on teen athletes using supplements to improve their performance, but cautions that Muscle Milk is not meant for children or teens.

Constituents

Even though the product is named so, it does not contain milk or any lactose substitute. It is a powdered supplement, much like a pre-workout drink. According to CytoSport, it contains proteins, complex carbohydrates, vitamins, and functional fats. The proteins are similar to those found in any whey drink while the medium chain triglycerides are actually fats that can be easily metabolized by the body for energy during a workout.

Reviews

Website Body Building has given Muscle Milk 7.5 out of 10 in its effectiveness as a muscle-building supplement. It is considered much better than other whey or creatine supplements available in the market because it provides more energy during a workout, possibly because it has been modeled to reflect the constitution of mother’s Milk, with added supplements to make it more beneficial for people who want to build muscle.

Benefits

According to Body Building, the product can provide athletes with the benefits of the medium-chain triglycerides, which are readily burned by the body for heat and energy to provide a better workout, and complex proteins and amino acids, which help in repairing tissue damage that may occur during workouts.

Problems and Side Effects

Website Best Protein Powders has reviewed Muscle Milk, which has tested positive for trace amounts of cadmium, arsenic and mercury, all of which do more harm than good and may result in slow poisoning over time. Mercury has been found in the chocolate flavor of Muscle Milk. There are no reported side effects of Muscle Milk because supplement manufacturers are not bound by law to list side effects.

Unsafe for Children

Greg Pickett, founder of CytoSport, the company that manufactures Muscle Milk, has said its products are not meant for children. Muscle Milk and other similar supplements may have life threatening consequences for children, as reported by the "Columbus Dispatch."
