How to Maintain a Johnny G Spin® Bike

A Johnny G Spin® Bike is manufactured by Startrac and used to provide consumers with an indoor cycling workout. The bike will often be available for instructor-led classes at workout facilities. Its features include multiple resistance levels, pedal adjustment, seat adjustment and handlebar adjustment. To keep the bike working for a long time, you need to properly maintain the unit.

Step 1

Use mild soap to clean the bike. To avoid damaging the spinner, avoid using any harsh chemicals. You should clean with mild soap and a wash cloth on a daily basis. This can remove sweat that may have accumulated on the bike. Rinse away the soap and towel dry.

Step 2

Check all parts of the bike. Make sure all of the bolts are tight and that all of the components are in working order.

Step 3

Level the bike. The spin cycle must be level at all times for optimal performance, especially if you frequently move the bike from place to place. Rotate the foot pads in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction until the bike is even.

Step 4

Crank the pedals. After 10 hours of first using the bike, use a small wrench to retighten the pedals. You should then proceed to do this every 100 hours of use.

Step 5

Apply a light coating of chain oil such as Medallion to the surface of the bike. Spread the lubricant over the chain with a bristle brush. Move the pedals to access all parts of the chain. You should apply the oil every 100 hours of operation.

Things You'll Need
