A burst of lime juice can enliven even the dullest of meals. It's delicious in drinks, too, and is often added to water, tea and even beer. Limes are a tasty, low-calorie addition to a healthy diet.

Basic Nutrition

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the juice from one 44 g lime contains 11 calories, almost all of which are due to carbohydrates. The juice from one lime has less than a gram of sugar and only a trace amount of fat.

Vitamins and Minerals

The tart taste of a lime can be attributed to the vitamin C it contains. The juice from one lime contains 13 mg of vitamin C, 6 mg of calcium, 4 mg of magnesium and 13 mcg of beta carotene. You'll also get a sprinkling of other vitamins and minerals as well.

Benefits

Fresh lime juice contains flavonoids, acids and hydrocarbons that give it antibacterial properties. The ascorbic acid in lime juice also lends it its antimicrobial properties, according to the University of Central Arkansas.
