Body cleanses utilize a variety of methods, from fasting to drinking only juices to drinking only water while the body flushes out toxins built up from weeks, months or years of poor eating habits. A body cleanse may also include exercise, body wraps and steam rooms for detoxification purposes. A person can perform a body cleanse in a weekend or a week, or over the course of a month or more, depending on which programs or plans they choose. You can perform a very effective total body cleanse in three days following a few basic steps and using ingredients you should have in your home pantry.
Lemon Detox
Try the lemon detox diet to get you started on a healthier diet and exercise plan for long-term benefits. While the lemon detox diet originally created in 1940 recommends a two-week course, try the diet for three days first. Drink 6 to 12 glasses of lemonade every day. Combine 12 glasses of water, 12 spoonfuls (dining spoon) of maple syrup, lemon juice and pulp from 6 or 7 lemons and a spoonful of dried crushed red peppers. Drink as much water as possible during the day to help prevent constipation. Do this for three days, then slowly add fruits and vegetables back into your eating routine on the second day, then return to a normal diet on the third day after the detox fast.
Exercise
While performing the lemon juice fast, engage in exercise to help flush toxins from the body through sweat. Get out and exercise, get your heart pumping and increase your metabolism. Remember to drink plenty of water before, during and after exercise to maintain hydration.
Organic Cleanse
If you don't like lemons or lemonade, try an organic cleanse over a three-day course by eating only organic fruits and vegetables. Drink other fruit juices such as prune juice or tomato juice, ingesting between 8 to 12 glasses a day, in addition to eating raw fruits and vegetables for optimal nutritious benefits.
Steam
Stand in your shower at home, allowing steam to help extract toxins from your body. Scrub your skin vigorously to help remove dead cells and toxins from the skin. Take a very warm or hot shower at least twice a day while performing a three-day cleanse, or split the day with a bath and a shower.
