Facts on Stress Symptoms

1. Stress Isn't All Bad

Stress causes physical and emotional responses in everyone, some of them good and some of them bad. For instance, you may experience stress caused by a divorce. This kind of stress is bad because it causes physical and emotional problems that can create lasting problems. Good stress is short lived; when you see your first child born, for instance, your heart may race, you may get dizzy or nauseated, but these symptoms are replaced by happiness. Life isn't a bed of roses, and you will have stressful times. Hopefully you can learn to deal with bad stress and leave lots of time for life's good stress.

2. Your Job Can Kill You

If you don't manage stress well or can't deal with stress immediately, whether it's an argument with your spouse or work overload, it can cause serious physical health problems. If your stressful job, life problems or conflicts continue over time, you can have a stress-induced heart attack, develop high blood pressure, abuse drugs or alcohol or become obese. Suicide can be an extreme outcome of unrelieved stress, so learning symptoms of stress and how to deal with it should be a number-one priority if you feel stressed.

3. Stop Serious Stress Symptoms

Anxiety and stress cause a host of physical symptoms. If you're having problems sleeping, get headaches, have an upset stomach and ulcers or fatigue, chronic stress could be the culprit. Many people complain of muscle tension or tight neck and shoulder muscles when they describe their stress symptoms, but stress can also cause more severe problems like a racing heart rate or dizziness. If you have any of these symptoms, you need to evaluate your daily stress and think about how you can reduce the amount of stress in your life.

4. Diet and Exercise Can Cure Stress, Too

If you have difficulty sleeping, feel nauseated or your neck is killing you, exercise could relieve these classic stress symptoms. Many experts recommend exercise first when listing stress relievers. Diet is important too. Your immune system doesn't work as well when you're stressed, so eat foods like fruits and vegetables, which help you fight off infection. Fatty foods may be the first things you reach for when you're stressed, but they'll make you feel more tired and sluggish and increase your stress symptoms, so eat them sparingly.

5. Take A Chill Pill

Relax. It sounds simple, but knowing how to get your body and mind to relax is the most important way of dealing with stress. Whether it's yoga, reading, exercise, listening to music, taking walks with your dog or just watching a funny movie, relaxing and finding relaxation strategies that work for you are key to a stress-free, or at least less-stressful, life.
