Dandruff, or sebhorreic dermatitis, is the proper name for the annoying white flakes shed by an irritated scalp. MayoClinic.com states dandruff may be caused by shampooing too frequently or infrequently, sensitivity to shampoos and styling products, eczema or psoriasis. The most common remedy for dandruff is a medicated shampoo, available in pharmacies or by prescription from a dermatologist. If you prefer to try a home remedy before using medication, you may wish to try an application of apple cider vinegar.
Step 1
Fill a large plastic cup halfway with apple cider vinegar. Use as large a cup as you need to saturate all your hair with the vinegar/water solution.
Step 2
Add water to fill the cup to the top.
Step 3
Lean over a sink or bathtub and pour the vinegar water over your head, concentrating it on your scalp. Fully saturate all of your hair.
Step 4
Massage the vinegar solution into your scalp in a circular motion using your fingertips. Be careful not to scratch your skin with your fingernails.
Step 5
Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave the solution on for 15 minutes before shampooing and rinsing as usual. Repeat the process every time you shampoo until your dandruff diminishes.
