The abdominal belt is a device that you can wear at all times of the day. Manufacturers say that wearing this electronic device will help you develop firm abdominal muscles while sitting down and relaxing because of electric stimulation. There are also exercises that you can do while wearing the belt that manufacturers say will further enhance your abdominal muscle development. The Federal Trade Commission has raised questions as to the value of the abdominal belt.
Aerobics
Aerobic exercises can help you get in shape by raising your heart rate and burning calories. Abdominal belt manufacturers say that aerobic are one of the exercises that will help belt wearers benefit the most, and that the stretching and constant movement along with the pulses from the electric ab belt will stimulate the ab muscles. However, Federal Trade Commission Chairman Timothy Muris says ab belts have questionable value to consumers. "Unfortunately, there are no magic pills, potions or pulsators for losing weight and getting into shape," Muris says. "The only winning combination is changing your diet and exercise."
Walking
Walking can be a stimulating exercise, especially for those with a sedentary lifestyle. Walking at a vigorous speed for at least 25 minutes at a time will get your heart rate up and help you burn calories. If you walk briskly while wearing an ab belt, you can get the added stimulation provided by the belt, according to manufacturers.
Resistance-Band Training
Stretching your muscles while using resistance bands can be an outstanding strength-building exercise. By doing arm curls with a resistance band, you can build strength in your arms, shoulders, chest, abs and core muscles. Step on the middle of the exercise band and grasp the two ends with your hands. Bring your hands up to the level of your midsection. Curl the exercise band up to shoulder height. Return to the starting position. Do 15 curls, take a one-minute break and repeat the set.
