Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition occurring when the body's skin cells build up and mature at a rapid pace. More than 6 million Americans are diagnosed with psoriasis. The skin will develop patches of raised silver scales and red areas of dry itching skin, according to the experts at the Mayo Clinic. A person with psoriasis can have episodes where the skin appears healthy alternating with active outbreaks. Psoriasis often occurs on the scalp, elbows, knees and back but can develop anywhere on the body. The condition is not contagious. Because there is no cure, a variety of home remedies and treatments, including the use of vinegar, are commonly used to relieve symptoms.
Step 1
Take daily baths. Fill the bathtub with lukewarm water. Calm the psoriasis by adding a 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar to the bath suggests Roberta Wilson, author of "Aromatherapy: Essential Oils for Vibrant and Beautiful Skin." Soaking in a cool bath with vinegar may also help relieve itching; however, avoid hot water, which can elevate the condition.
Step 2
Add apple cider vinegar to an empty spray bottle. Lightly mist any affected skin to relieve itching. Store the spray bottle in the refrigerator to keep the vinegar cool. The cool sensation will also soothe the skin. Soak fingernails or toenails affected by psoriases in apple cider vinegar every day.
Step 3
Add apple cider vinegar internally and treat the disease from the inside out. Sip warmed up apple cider vinegar. Mix equal parts honey and apple cider to form honegar; the concoction is an old-folk remedy yet some people credit the drink for improving psoriasis. Add 1 tbsp. of honegar to a glass of warm water, mix and drink.
