Diet Fuel is a weight-loss product manufactured by Twinlab. It is an ephedra-free diet pill and energy booster that claims to increase body metabolism and core temperature. Twinlab recommends taking two Diet Fuel capsules three times a day prior to meals. Diet Fuel contains stimulants. The directions suggest starting with one capsule per meal and increasing dosage based on individual tolerance. Always consult your physician before taking any new supplement.

Guarana is Diet Fuel's Active Ingredient

Guarana seed extract is the active ingredient in Twinlab Diet Fuel. The guarana vine grows in the Amazon forest, and its seeds are crushed and turned into beverages and medicine. Guaranine, an ingredient of guarana, is similar to caffeine and is thought to help boost energy and metabolism. This makes it a popular ingredient in products such as Diet Fuel. However, its energy-enhancing properties can also cause side effects similar to caffeine, and it should be used with caution.

Citrus Aurantium is a Risky Stimulant in Diet Fuel

Citrus aurantium, or bitter orange, is a stimulant that is used as part of Diet Fuel's Thermogenic Energy Enhancing Complex. Synephrine is the active ingredient in Citrus aurantium. Synephrine is similar to ephedra and gained popularity as a replacement ingredient when ephedra was banned by the Food and Drug Administration due to serious side effects. However, synephrine has caused some of the same side effects, including the possibility of stroke and heart failure.

Diet Fuel's Thermogenic Energy Enhancing Complex

Diet Fuel contains a Thermogenic Energy Enhancing Complex. In addition to synephrine, it includes St. John's wort, L-Phenylalanine and Green Tea Leaf Extract. St. John's wort is best known as an herbal antidepressant, but there is no evidence to prove that it has any effect on weight loss. L-Phenylalanine is an amino acid that occurs naturally in some fruits and seeds. It is thought to suppress appetite and improve mood by triggering the release of cholecystolonin, or CCK, and creating feelings of fullness. Green tea leaf extract is best known for its antioxidant properties and is thought to have metabolism-enhancing and fat-burning properties. Green tea leaf extract combined with caffeine has been proved effective in weight loss studies.
