If you take herbal weight loss pills such as Crevax, you may lose large amounts of weight without exercise, especially when combined with a calorie-restricted diet. You may not keep it off after you stop taking the pill, however, advises Dr. Michael Hall, a family physician for DuBois Regional Medical Center in Pennsylvania. Consult your doctor before you start taking Crevax or any herbal weight loss supplement.
Description
Crevax, an herbal weight loss supplement manufactured by a division of Nathans Natural, Inc. in New York, New York, contains hoodia gordonii, green tea, gynostemma pentaphyllum, salvia miltiorrhiza, fructus lycii, peony root and taurine amino acid. Some proponents of this herbal weight loss pill claim that these seven ingredients will help you lose up to 7 lbs. within six days and 37 pounds a month.
Function
Each of the main ingredients in Crevax may assist your weight loss in different ways. The manufacturer claims that hoodia increases your feeling of fullness, green tea breaks down stored fat molecules, gynostemma pentaphyllum fights against fat formation, silvia miltiorrhiza gives you energy, fructus lycii boosts your immune system, peony root prevents jittery feelings associated with most weight loss pills, and taurine amino acid helps relieve anxiety and boosts energy levels. The advertising claims state that together these ingredients make a weight loss supplement that will allow you to enjoy losing weight without filling jittery, tired or hungry.
Dangers
Herbal supplements contain active substances that can cause side effects and interact with other dietary supplements, herbs and medications. For instance, people who suffer from heart problems, kidney disorders, stomach ulcers and psychological disorders should not use green tea, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Speak with your doctor and ensure he knows all the medications, herbs and supplements you plan to take while consuming Crevax.
Role of Exercise
You may lose weight while using Crevax and not exercising, but you probably will not keep it off. As you lose weight and eat less due to the effects of the herbs in Crevax, you may lose some lean muscle tissue in addition to fat. When you stop taking Crevax, this decreased muscle tissue will cause your body to burn less calories each day than it did prior to taking Crevax. This results because muscle burns more calories each day than fat. Exercising while you take Crevax will allow your body to maintain and possibly increase lean muscle tissue. Exercising will also increase your rate of weight loss while taking Crevax and help you maintain the weight loss when you stop taking Crevax.
Considerations
No quick fix for weight loss will give you long-term results. MayoClinic.com advises that long-term weight loss requires a lifetime commitment to a healthy, low-calorie diet and exercise regimen. Weight loss supplements may help you begin to make changes in your life, but you have to commit to a new way of life to make the changes last.
