Cleaning out your system means that you are trying to detoxify and remove harmful chemicals and substances from your body. According to Dr. Jeffrey Rossman featured on MSNBC, environmental toxins have been linked to development of endocrine, immune, reproductive, metabolic, cardiovascular, cognitive and behavioral disorders. To detoxify, you can make some small changes instead of participating in unhealthy detox methods such as fasting or taking laxatives.

Prebiotics

The Jackson Siegelbaum Gastroenterology says prebiotics can be added to your diet as a way to encourage healthy bacteria in the digestive system and found in the colon. A diet rich in prebiotics has several health benefits including lower triglyceride levels, stronger bones, increased immunity and stronger bones. Prebiotic sources are found in plant foods such as onions, garlic, leeks, artichokes, asparagus and bananas.

Reduce Plastics Exposure

Mattresses and plastic shower curtains contain polyvinyl chloride or PVC, which can emit toxins that make you feel dizzy or fatigued. Instead, use shower curtains and mattress covers made from natural fibers -- such as cotton and hemp.

Regular Exercise

Aim for a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise each day. According to Health.com, regular exercise can slow the rate of bone loss and reduce the amount of lead in the bones. The bones can absorb lead which makes them brittle and prone to breakage.

Eat Organic

Dr. Rossman also recommends you eat organic whenever possible to reduce toxic exposure. If a farmer's market is available in your area, choose local and organic fruits and vegetables. Supermarkets also have foods that carry the USDA Organic label to inform consumers that the foods were not exposed to harmful pesticides.

Drink Water

Aim for at least eight glasses of water each day. Water can help your body flush out toxins naturally. Also, eating fiber rich foods and drinking plenty of water can help you stay regular, another way to clean out your system.
