A Dove dark chocolate bar is made of chocolate with higher percentage of cocoa than typical milk chocolate. This candy contains substantial amounts of both fat and carbohydrate and also offers trace quantities of vitamins and minerals.

Contents

A Dove dark chocolate bar consists of 37 g of chocolate. The USDA states that around 23 g of this amount consists of carbohydrate. The same serving also contains 12 g of fat, with 7 g as saturated fat. Around 2 g of the bar is protein, and the remaining portion is other nutrients and water.

Calories

The USDA indicates that a 37-g Dove dark chocolate bar provides around 195 calories. Fats within the candy provide around 108 calories, while carbohydrates make up around 69 calories and 18 calories come from protein.

Vitamins

A Dove dark chocolate bar contains riboflavin at 0.05 mg or 4 percent of recommended daily intake, vitamin K at 2.7 mcg or 3 percent and niacin at 0.26 mg or just 2 percent of the daily recommended intake. Other trace vitamins include thiamin, folate and vitamins B-6 and B-12.

Minerals

The Dove bar also contains moderate amounts of some minerals, including iron at 2 mg or or 20 percent of the daily recommendation, magnesium at 49 mg or 13 percent and phosphorus at 67 mg or 9 percent of the daily recommended intake. Less significant amounts of minerals include calcium, copper, phosphorous, selenium, zinc, potassium and sodium.

Flavonols

Flavonols -- naturally occurring chemical constituents in dark chocolate -- can act as powerful antioxidants, helping to eliminate free radicals -- chemicals that can damage cells -- within the body. These flavonols are what give dark chocolate its strong, pungent aroma and taste.
