Sweet almond oil is an essential oil made from the dried kernel of sweet almonds. Sweet almond oil has many therapeutic uses and is high in vitamins, including vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E. Sweet almond oil is edible and can be used in cooking, and it is also beneficial for topical use on skin and hair.
Step 1
Use as a carrier oil for other essential oils for aromatherapy. Essential oils can be too strong to be applied to skin directly and must be diluted with a carrier oil before application. Aromatherapy oils can be used to relieve conditions such as muscle pain, headaches and stress.
Step 2
Use it for massage. Rub sweet almond oil into skin for moisturization and to ease deep muscle massage. Sweet almond oil is ideal for massage because it contains high amounts of oleic and linoleic acid, essential fatty acids that can act as mild topical pain relievers for sore muscles.
Step 3
Use it in making soap. Handmade soap requires a combination of lye and oils; many homemade soaps use large amounts of olive oil and supplement with extra-emollient oils such as sweet almond oil. Adding additional plant oils and butters to soap is a process called super-fatting the soap, which makes it more moisturizing.
Step 4
Pour sweet almond oil over salad as a dressing. The essential fatty acids in sweet almond oil that are moisturizing when applied to the surface of the skin are also necessary for optimal brain function. Add to vinegar and spices as desired.
Step 5
Use sweet almond oil directly to moisturize dry skin. Sweet almond oil absorbs well into the skin. The oil is used in many lotions and creams to smooth and soothe irritated dry skin and replace needed moisture.
