Dry hair and hair loss go hand in hand. As your hair becomes damaged, your scalp's sebaceous glands are unable to coat hair shafts with protective oils. The result is dryness and excessive shedding, eventually leaving you with thinning patches. Factors that cause your hair to become damaged and dry include environmental weather changes, chemical processing, stress and blow drying. Home treatments for dry hair are effective; however, you should consult your dermatologist when home treatment fails to provide improvement.

Step 1

Apply jojoba oil to hair creams and conditioners, suggests CareFair.com. By coating each hair follicle, jojoba oil reverses damage and provides the moisture that your hair has been lacking. Jojoba oil also helps by removing dirt and buildup that blocks your natural oil production within hair follicles.

Step 2

Massage your scalp with a dime sized amount of mayonnaise. According to "The Doctors Book of Home Remedies," massaging mayo into your scalp for five minutes then rinsing with warm water will help restore moisture balance. Deeper conditioning with mayonnaise is achieved by leaving it in your hair for up to one hour.

Step 3

Eat two 3- to 4-oz. servings of proteins per day. According to "The Doctors Book of Home Remedies for Women," proteins are essential to keeping your hair healthy and preventing hair from falling out. Ideal foods such as fish, lean beef and chicken are best for protein ingestion.

Step 4

Add beer to a spray bottle and spritz onto damp hair, allowing it to air dry completely before styling. "The Doctors Book of Home Remedies" states that beer acts as a setting lotion to help restore hair health and add moisture to your tresses. As your hair dries, any alcohol smell will dissipate.
