Homemade Rice Krispies treats are a snap to prepare and have that crackling rice taste. In as little as 30 minutes from start to finish to prepare, these treats probably should not be included in a sensible diet plan. Kellogg's was the first company to develop and market crisped rice cereal called Rice Krispies, which was over 80 years ago. That "snap, crackle, pop" cereal was a best seller for years, and still holds an impressive market share.

Serving and Ingredients for Homemade Treats

One serving is two Rice Krispies Treats equaling 37 g, with 12 servings per batch of homemade treats approximately 2 inches square. Preparation time is approximately 10 minutes, but it requires an additional 20 minutes for the treats to set. Ingredients include 3 tablespoons of butter or margarine, one 10 oz. package of regular marshmallows and six cups of Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal.

Calories, Fat, Cholesterol and Sodium

One serving of Rice Krispies Treats has 140 calories, with 25 calories from fat with a total fat content of 3 g, including 2 g of saturated fat. Rice Krispies Treats have 10 mg of cholesterol and 105 mg of sodium. The percent daily value includes 4 percent of total fat, 9 percent of saturated fat, 3 percent of cholesterol and 4 percent of sodium. If torn between using butter or margarine, keep in mind that one tablespoon of butter equals 102 calories, 11 g of total fat and 33 mg of cholesterol. One tablespoon of stick margarine contains 101 calories, 11 g of fat and no cholesterol.

Carbohydrates and Protein

One serving of two squares contains 28 g of total carbohydrates, providing 9 percent daily value, with no fiber and 14 g of sugars. A single serving provides 1 g of protein.

Vitamins and Minerals

Rice Krispies Treats are lacking in essential vitamins and minerals, however, they do provide 10 percent daily value for vitamin A and vitamin C and 20 percent daily value for iron.

Ingredients

Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal contains rice, sugar, salt, malt flavoring, iron, vitamins A, B-1, B-2, B-6, B-12, C, D and E, niacinamide and folic acid. Marshmallows consist of sweeteners, usually corn syrup, vanilla and egg whites; some brands add marshmallow root. Salted butter is essentially milk fat --- or the fat from cream, with a touch of salt for taste.
