Menstruation is not a favorite time of the month for any woman, but it becomes even less pleasant than usual when normal menstruation becomes menorrhagia, or heavy flow. A number of factors can cause it, although the condition is rare, but of more interest to sufferers of menorrhagia is ways to treat and correct the issue so they can lead a normal life. There are a wide variety of herbal remedies available to assist with stemming heavy bleeding.
Coriander Seeds
Coriander seeds are fairly readily available anywhere you buy spices. To prepare this remedy, boil 6 grams of the seeds in one half liter of water. When the solution has boiled down to half of the original amount of water, remove it from heat. Add a bit of sugar to improve the taste, and then drink the mixture while it's still warm.
Mango Bark
There are two suggested ways of treating menorrhagia with mango bark. The first is simpler: Mix 10mL of extract from the bark into 120mL of water, then take a 1-teaspoon dose every hour or two. The second method of using mango bark is more complicated: Take the juice of fresh mango bark and add the white of one egg to it. To this, add a small amount of a kernel of poppy and mix, then drink.
Banana Flower
This is considered one of the most efficient ways of treating menorrhagia. Steam one banana flower and combine with 1 cup of curd, then eat it. This works to increase the amount of progesterone your body is producing, which in turn will reduce the amount of bleeding.
Indian Barbery
Take 13 to 25 grams of Indian barbery per day to reduce the volume of your menstrual flow. The herb is not always easy to find.
Rough Chaff
A fairly easy herbal remedy for menorrhagia involves the herb rough chaff. Steep 15 grams of this herb in 250mL of water to produce a tea-like solution, then consume.
Avoid Aspirin
This is an important caution for the condition of a heavy flow. Aspirin is used for discomfort by some patients, but it is known to prevent blood clotting, and thus lead to heavier bleeding. If you are experiencing discomfort with your menstrual flow, use a different method of managing it.
