Whether you are a visitor or a resident, San Diego has a variety of activities and attractions that you may not normally consider. The temperate climate in San Diego is welcoming for you to live an active outdoor lifestyle. Exploring San Diego allows you to discover things to do that are different from other places, from activities on the Pacific Ocean to weekly events at Balboa Park.

Flowboarding

Flowboarding--a combination of surfing, skateboarding, skim boarding, and wakeboarding--is a sport where you stand or lay on a board while riding on an artificial wave that is created with high-pressure jets. Wave House is a business with outdoor wave simulator machines on Mission Beach. When you fall off a flowboard, the wave simulator provides you with a padded landing. To go flowboarding you need to be more than 42 inches tall to body board and more than 52 inches tall to ride standing up. If you are under the age of 18, a parent or guardian is required to sign a permission form.

Sailboat Racing

Riding aboard racing yachts that are built to circle the globe is an activity you can take advantage of in San Diego. Dennis Conner's America's Cup Experience allows you to experience the excitement of being involved in this race, during hour-and-a-half and two-and-a-half-hour-long tours. Stars and Stripes and Abracadabra are competition-tested yachts that were purchased from Dennis Conner, who is a legendary America's Cup Skipper. After embarking on your sailing expedition in San Diego Bay, you can choose from relaxing or working like an America's Cup racing crew member.

Stand-up Paddleboarding

Paddleboarding is an activity that allows you to get exercise at your own pace while spending time getting fresh air on the water. The two basic forms of paddleboarding you can choose from include prone paddleboarding, which involves lying down on the board, or stand-up paddleboarding. San Diego Paddleboarding is a business located on Mission Bay that offers lessons, half-day or full-day rentals and equipment that can be purchased.

Gondola Rides

Taking a ride in a Venetian rowing boat is an activity you can take advantage of in San Diego, whether you are on a romantic date or looking for a relaxing ride. The Gondola Company offers you daytime and nighttime cruises that last about one hour, and take you through the Coronado Cays canals. Up to six passengers can ride on a gondola, while the gondolier does all the rowing.

Sunday Organ Concerts

Spreckels Organ Pavilion is one of San Diego's major attractions in Balboa Park, where you can attend free organ concerts on any Sunday of the year. The City of San Diego has staffed a civic organist to play the outdoor concerts since 1917. Housed inside of a vaulted structure, the organ has 4,530 different pipes that range from pencil-size to 32 feet in length.
